Kyara, a Japanese tapas house, is attracting a loyal following with unique and affordable offerings of appetizers and skewers. True, there are other Japanese-style tapas in town, with Ichiza and Raku coming to mind, but Kyara manages to find the balance between the former’s low-key affability and the latter’s sense of adventure without siphoning too much out of the ATM. Whether touching on the familiar (spicy tuna), the comforting (clams in sake) or the captivating (shark cartilage and Japanese plum, a sharp and sweet favorite), Kyara does the “Look, Ma!” routine with notable suss and consistency.
