1. Most Anticipated Night of the Year
AFAN’s Black & White Ball
It’s a predominantly gay event, but it gets a lot of support and sponsorship from the straight community. It’s a classy event with high-profile celebrities who genuinely want to be seen there. It’s their good deed for the year.
2. Best Gay Bar
Fun Hogs Ranch
Located on East Twain Avenue and Paradise Road, it’s a fun, interactive, campy place with darts, games and cheap drinks. It’s like a gay PT’s!
3. Gay Nightclub to Be Seen
Krave Nightclub
We have two options in Vegas: Piranha and Krave. Because of its location, one is going to have more tourists. So, in this case, size does matter.
4. Hottest New Locals Night
Vicious by Crush at the Hard Rock Café on the Strip
By throwing amazing 18-and-over monthy parties with great talent (calendar at SoCrush.com), Crush very subtly educates the LGBT community on the dangers of smoking and gives these kids a safe environment in which to party. And once you get the kids in there, the energy is amazing. Every song is their favorite.
5. Gay Networking Mixer
Sin City Q Socials
It’s the only really professional gay networking event in Las Vegas (SinCityQSocials.com). It’s a good social networking channel with a diverse age demographic and is a community-based service offering weekly, monthly and special events. For people who have just moved to Vegas it’s a great way to meet new people!
6. Gay-Friendly Hotel
Encore
Encore has really put itself out there by soliciting gay and lesbian clientele in some pretty less-than-subtle print ads. Their bold ads are pretty impressive for such corporate giants. We hear Wynn has hired a team of Pride Concierges and plans to host the NOH8 campaign (check out EncoreLasVegas.com/pride). It’s a huge step in the right direction not just in the gay community but for equality.
7. Gay-Friendly Company
The Light Group
They’re the ones really pushing the envelope. In 2011, the Light Group will start a dedicated gay department (with gay concierges and gay hosts) to spotlight certain venues for the LGBT community. They’re definitely one step ahead of other companies.
