DCR bartender Tom Kunick says Agent Orange is a new twist on an old favorite. “It’s basically an Old Fashioned cocktail,” he says, but it’s made with Jameson instead of bourbon and has a sweet orange-nutmeg foam on top.

The Old Fashioned remains the barman’s go-to drink. “I love making it, I love drinking it,” Kunick says, noting he loves to play around with the recipe. This variation took seven months to perfect, and made its way onto the DCR bar menu a few weeks ago.

  • 2 ounces Jameson Irish whisky
  • ½ ounce Demerara sugar syrup (simple syrup made with raw sugar)
  • 3 dashes Angostura orange bitters
  • 1 maraschino cherry, marinated in cherry liqueur
  • 1 slice of orange
  • ice

Method:

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake hard. Strain into an Old Fashioned or rocks glass and serve with ice. Don’t bother with the orange nutmeg foam finish; it’s too difficult to replicate at home.
