Of all of the illustrious basketball players to suit up for UNLV, only one has gone on to win an NBA title. And it’s not a name familiar to most Rebel fans: John Q. Trapp, who played one season at UNLV (1967-68), was a reserve forward for the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers championship squad. Now, with the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks in this year’s NBA Finals, a second Rebel is guaranteed to receive a championship ring, since each team in the Finals employs a former UNLV player. Former UNLV Rebel and NBA All-Star Shawn Marion comes back to give back

Four-time NBA All-Star Shawn Marion returns to the city that launched him to fame July 23-24 to raise scholarship money for single parents pursuing post-secondary education at UNLV. Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child joins the former Rebel and current Dallas Maverick at Tao on July 23 as they host a kickoff party. The Shawn Marion Foundation Celebrity Poker Tournament gets under way at noon the following day at the Palms, after onsite registration. Read more »
